A couple weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to get to visit the ruins at Pergamon with my host brothers Egemen and Niall and all of Niall's rotary friends.
Quite some time ago, some other exchange students and I took a trip to Milas, a smaller city a couple hours south of Izmir. Written in November, recently edited. On October 27th, the NSLI-Y kids in Izmir and the five YES Abroad students living in Aydin and Samsun met up in Ankara for a meeting and some sight seeing. On October 8th, I finally got to start Turkish high school. The results so far have been çok komik. About a week and a half ago, the Bayram holidays took place. As part of the delicate balancing act that comes with being a majority Muslim country with a secular government, Turkey has invented an interesting scheme to manage religious and national holidays. On Friday September 4th, I woke up over Croatia. I looked out my window to see mountains with the occasional village or town nestled in a valley. What better way to kick off a year abroad than a visit to the United Nations? After flying to New York last Tuesday, I got to do just that. |
